167 Wapping High Street, London E1W

The existing building has three floors of accommodation and a small attic space. There is an outside space to the side of the house and shared courtyard to the rear. It is located in the heart of the Wapping Wall Conservation Area. The brief involves the reconfiguration of the entire internal layout and also extension upwards and to the side to provide a modern, spacious and practical family home.

The side extension is designed to fit in with the local venacular, whilst being of its time and the massing and proportions are set out to fit with the scale of buildings on the street.

The materials used will be true to the buildings 1980s heritage however will nod to the older local vernacular of metal, painted timber and brick and have a modern feel as well,  treated accoya wood with an opaque charcoal colour finish will used to clad the extension, this will be repeated within materials choosen for the front door, the canopy to the back door and for garden and external storage screens. To give the extension added visual interest without being overpowering a warm orange colour will be choosen for the roof light linking in with the existing red brick banding.
